We are a grassroots, community driven organization passionate about smart justice policies for Wisconsin. We have loved ones incarcerated and care about the difficulties facing the Wisconsin justice system, just like you! We cannot do this alone. It will require all of us striving for the same goal, working together, and making true change happen.

Wisconsin pays an extreme amount of money per year per individual incarcerated. This is all coming out of taxpayer pockets. Also, if these individuals are released - that burden will be released PLUS they will be putting into the taxpayer system as well as our communities. Check out the End JLWOP page for more data!

We understand there are many complex feelings of the victims involved in these serious crimes. Any bill put forth keeps that in mind and allows victims a voice. Keep in mind, that every person is different, every situation is different and each case deserves that individual attention. We have supporters that are victims, we have supporters that are dually impacted (who are victims but are also related to those who committed the crime), and we are sure there are victims against any legislation put forth as well. The end to JLWOP bill encourages and allows victims to come forth and speak there mind, and thus that will be part of the decision making process. It is important that both sides are heard and understood.

We are about coming together as a community and striving to heal that community together as one. We believe in second chances and growth and rehabilitation. When someone has been incarcerated for many, many years the statistics show they are less likely to reoffend. In fact, these individuals are not only staying out of trouble, they are going above and beyond to contribute to their communities and help keep their communities safer, happier, and healthier.

This bill has been already written and introduced a handful of times, not quite making it over the finish line yet. It is a bipartisan bill that is fairly “down the middle” that we think both sides can support. It’s a sensible, merit based, start in the right direction for the WI justice system and aligns with what a majority of the rest of the country is doing.

The step Governor Evers took to create this commutation process is certainly heading in the right direction. However, just as easily as it was written, an executive order can be removed or changed at any important. It is important to get this legislation passed and codified into law!

We need active participation in any way any person can possibly help to get this legislation over the finish line. Please check out our Volunteer page, social media, contact us, etc. to see how we could use your help.
